Football

Football is a team sport played primarily with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players. The objective of the game is to score goals by propelling the ball into the opposing team’s net, using any part of the body except the arms and hands (goalkeepers are an exception). Football is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, which has a goal at each end. The sport is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game.

Football is one of the most popular sports worldwide, often referred to as “soccer” in certain regions, particularly in the United States and Canada, to distinguish it from American football. It is known for its rich history, passionate fanbase, and significant cultural impact across various countries. Major international competitions include the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championship, and continental tournaments like the Copa América and the African Cup of Nations. Football’s governing body, FIFA, oversees the organization of these events and the international rules of the game.
