Pokémon

Pokémon is a media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori, managed by the Pokémon Company, which is a collaboration between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc. The franchise centers around fictional creatures called “Pokémon,” which humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train to battle each other for sport. The term “Pokémon” is a contraction of the English words “Pocket” and “Monsters.” The franchise includes video games, trading card games, animated television series, movies, merchandise, and more, and has become a cultural phenomenon since its inception in the late 1990s. The goal for many trainers in the games is to become a Pokémon Master by catching diverse Pokémon, completing a Pokédex, and defeating other trainers, including Gym Leaders and the Pokémon League.
